Curt Landry: Using God’s Word to Pray for Healing

Are there situations or circumstances that simply don’t sit right with you? Is there something in your soul that is unsettled when you see, hear or get around people or into certain situations?

Though it can feel uneasy in your soul, these are actually areas that need God’s healing touch. They are opportunities presenting themselves as invitations to turn the hurts over to God, and trade them in for the healing and wholeness He has for you.

See God as Father, Friend and Healer

How do you see God? You might see Him as Father and Friend, but He is also Healer. One of God’s names is Jehovah Rapha. In Hebrew, this means “the God who heals.” “Rapha” means “to make completely whole, to mend and repair thoroughly.”

This means that your loving Father, who is also a friend, came to completely restore and mend every part of you—body, soul and spirit.

God wants to see you wholly healed. Yet He also says to cast all of our cares upon Him (1 Pet. 5:7). We can ask Him to thoroughly search our hearts, revealing any brokenness within us (Ps. 139:23-24). Then we lay those hurts, pains, sicknesses and diseases at His feet through prayer and receive His promise of healing by declaring His Word over our situation, mind, body and soul (1 John 1:9).

Use God’s Word, such as 1 Thessalonians 5:23, to proclaim this truth about His complete healing:

“Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”—(emphasis added)

Come Out of Agreement with the Brokenness

Sickness, disease, emotional pains and hurts can consume your thoughts and even your words. You can start to speak in agreement with these things, and they start to become how you identify yourself—“I am (name of condition or negative mindset).”

God wants to release the wholeness He has for you this coming season. So then, don’t lose sight of who and what God says you are, and what is available to you through the blood of Yeshua.

Choose to speak words of life rather than words of death. Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

Deuteronomy 30:15-16 says, “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, in that I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the Lord your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess.”

We get to choose how we talk. And God’s Word—which He wants us to speak—is powerful, sharper than a two-edged sword and the only way to have victory over brokenness, heartache, sickness and disease.

Use God’s Word, such as Hebrews 4:12 and Psalm 19:14, to proclaim this truth about the power of words:

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart,”Hebrews 4:12 (Emphasis added).

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer”—Psalm 19:14 (Emphasis added).

Put God into Remembrance of His Word

Isaiah 43:26 says, “Put Me in remembrance; let us contend together; state your case, that you may be acquitted.”

Because of Yeshua the Messiah, you have access to the provision of God’s Word. God wants you to use the provision to receive what is yours—healing!

Use God’s Word, such as Isaiah 55:11, to proclaim the truth that His Word always delivers on the promise.

“So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth, it shall not return to me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it” (Isa. 55:11). (Emphasis added)

Plead the blood of Jesus

Scholars believe, based on Deuteronomy 25:3, that Jesus received 39 lashes or stripes. This is why Isaiah 53:5 says, “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed” (Emphasis added).

These stripes apply the blood of Jesus over every root cause of brokenness and sickness!

Use God’s Word, such as Psalm 103, to remind your soul who heals and the benefits of being under the blood.

“Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within my, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s”—(Ps. 103:1-5, Emphasis added).

In Summary

Using God’s Word to pray for healing starts with recognizing He is your healer. Ask Him to reveal the places in your soul that are broken. He will show you because He wants to heal you. Your response is to proclaim His truth over those broken places and give Him the glory, shouting, “Bless the Lord, O my soul!”

  • Pray by coming out of agreement with anything other than who and what God says you are and have.
  • Pray by proclaiming His life-giving Word over your situation, mind, body, and soul.
  • Pray by pleading the blood of Jesus. By His stripes—His blood—you are healed.
