Why Saints Fall Away from God

No matter how knowledgeable they may be, believers who toy with carnal temptations are vulnerable to deception and capable of being led away from their relationship with God.

Pride–something with which we’re all tempted–presents us with a distorted picture of self-sufficiency. If we embrace this idea, then we will be drawn away from a humble dependency on God.

Whatever the temptation, it has to find a place of weakness in us. The allurement must serve some purpose in order to lead us into deception. This is why it is essential to have our hearts continually cleansed by the Holy Spirit.

Surrender again to God your whole heart, and pray that no idol will be allowed to rule there.

READ: Matt. 7:13-23; 1 Cor. 10:1-13; 2 Thess. 2:1-12; 2 Thess. 3:1-15; 1 Tim. 4:1-16; 2 Tim. 3:1-17.
HEART ISSUE: What are some of the things you must change as part of a pro-active approach to avoiding deception?
PRAYER FOCUS: Father, make us aware of our need to walk closely with You. Help us to see the blind spots–areas of our lives wherein unseen dangers may be lurking. Show us even the unprofitable behaviors we hold to that aren’t necessarily wrong but hinder nonetheless. Thank You for grace and strength to overcome. Amen.
