God’s Healing Promises: They’re Yours for the Taking

God's healing promises are yours for the taking.

Healing is a controversial topic in many churches. Some do not believe in divine healing because they don’t see people being healed, and they don’t see people being healed because they do not believe God will heal. In many cases people aren’t being healed because they are uninformed on how to receive healing.

If we ask God to heal us and don’t see results, we might assume He doesn’t want to heal us, that our illness is meant to be a lesson, or that the healing gifts stopped long ago. I believed some of these things too, until I saw amazing and miraculous recoveries occur with people who stopped listening to what others told them and began doing some serious Bible study for themselves. Let’s turn to God’s Word to discover God’s will on healing:

  • “My son, attend to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their body” (Prov. 4:20–22).
  • Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people” (Matt. 9:35).
  • “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him” (Acts 10:38).
  • “Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, even as your soul is well” (3 John 2).

Jesus came to do His Father’s will, which was to deliver people from all forms of bondage and oppression in their bodies and souls. Healing was a part of that deliverance. He never denied anyone or told anyone they were unworthy. God’s will is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Jesus, the Word of God, demonstrated firsthand how healing works. All of God’s words are for us today. Proverbs 4:20–22 promises that His words are life to all your body. There is no tissue or body system that the words and promises of God cannot penetrate to minister life and health. He says so!

I believe the reason some are healed and some are not is because of how they handle the Word of God. God’s ways are different from our ways. It takes study and knowledge to claim the promises available to us. Look, for example, at the promise of this passage:

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits, who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s” (Psalm 103:1–5).

When it says God heals all your diseases, it means all of them—no exceptions. Furthermore, do you see an order implied in this passage? I believe this is important, and we will use it as our guide.

  • When you come to God to accept His treasures of healing, first bless—speak well of—Him and praise Him from your heart. Praise Him for all His benefits and blessings, no matter what your circumstances.

Then become your best self by repenting and confessing any of your sins, especially any unforgiveness you carry toward yourself, others or God.

  • Lastly, acknowledge the healing promises God has already given you and the specific Scriptures in which you are placing your trust. Declare your belief that these Scriptures are now at work within your being, imparting life and healing. See His healing power flowing through you and Jesus the Healer nourishing each cell of your body and restoring it to wholeness.

God is eager for you to be well. He has done His part already and puts the receiving of it into your hands. See God’s healing power as a well of living water within you. You simply need to draw from it on a daily basis.

We do this by walking in love toward God and man, and releasing and forsaking any sin that tries to ensnare and distract us. Then, standing on His promises of healing and restoration, with no wavering or unbelief, we withdraw healing power by declaring His promises to us and believing them. This turns the waters of healing loose to permeate our lives.

If you continually beg for healing as if it were a whim of God’s or something “out there somewhere” that you don’t have access to, you will invite emotional stress, and God is going to wonder why you don’t take hold of what has already been provided for you. He has already said yes to your healing. I can plead for fresh tomatoes all day to appear in my kitchen, but I get better results if I just go out back and pick them from my garden. The same is true for you.

God’s promises of healing are yours and available for the taking. They are scattered as pearls throughout the Scriptures. You only need to pick them up. {eoa}
