GoBible Traveler | GoBible LLC | $59.95

If you desire to be a student of the Word yet have a busy lifestyle that too often minimizes your devotional time, you’ll love the GoBible Traveler. It is a handheld audio device similar in size and shape to an iPod that comes preloaded with the entire Bible. Just pop in a AAA battery and plug in the included ear buds (or any headphone of your choice), and you’re ready to listen to the Bible anywhere—while cleaning your house, exercising, shopping, traveling, relaxing at the beach or just sitting in an easy chair in your living room.

The GoBible Traveler is somewhat slimmer and lighter than the original GoBible and therefore fits more easily into a pocket or purse than its predecessor did—so it is amazingly convenient. A “button lock” feature prevents it from being turned off accidentally or a different book from being inadvertently selected if the device is bumped while you’re listening to it. A bookmark function allows you to mark your place before you turn it off so that you can get right back to the same spot next time you’re ready to listen.

The only complaint I have about the unit is that the time-out period that follows after you hit the pause button is not very long. If you have to interrupt your listening to answer the door, the phone or your child’s homework questions, I suggest you turn the device off rather than pausing it. Just be sure to bookmark your location first. Other than that, this device is great. I use mine nearly every day, during all sorts of activities—even when my time for reading a print version of the Word is not limited. “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God,” the Bible tells us—and what better way to hear the Word than to listen to a pleasant voice reading it to you throughout the day?

The GoBible Traveler offers the option of following a Bible-in-a-Year plan. This device is currently available in the New International Version, read by Charles Taylor, and the King James Version, read by Alexander Scourby, with more versions planned for the future. A Spanish translation, narrated by Rafael Cruz, is also available.
