Family and child advocate Dr. Ted Baehr, founder and publisher of Movieguide: The Family Guide to Movies and Entertainment, criticized Warner Bros. for trying to market the new R-rated comedy, “The Hangover Part II,” to teenagers and young adults.

The Hollywood Reporter reported today that Warner Bros. executives are hoping that the new movie, which includes full nudity, graphic sexual content and more than 140 obscenities and profanities, will do boffo business, not only among young adults but also with “parents who are liberal enough to take their kids to see the comedy.”

“If they don’t come, God save the movie business,” The Hollywood Reporter quoted one Warner Bros. executive worried about the recent downturn in the movie industry.

“If they do come, then God save America. And, Hollywood,” Baehr responded.

“Instead of celebrating obscenity, indecency and debauchery among our children,” said Baehr, chairman of the Christian Film & Television Commission ministry and its family guide to movies, Movieguide. “Warner Bros. and Hollywood should be celebrating truth, justice, purity and love of America.”

He pointed out that Warner Bros. also made the Christian movie “The Blind Side,” which made more than $300 million at the box office and sold more than $100 million in DVDs. Baehr also noted there are no R-rated comedies among the Top 20 movies of all time worldwide.

“Our Movieguide statistics of the Top 250 movies every year show that the most family-friendly movies make three or more times more money on average than the least family-friendly movies,” Dr. Baehr noted. “And, last year, movies rated G and PG averaged $63.7 million but movies rated R averaged only $18 million.”
