God Answers Prayers of Banned Villagers

The fasting and prayers of a Gospel for Asia-supported national missionary and his congregation in Assam have been answered with at least a temporary end to the persecution of a fellow believer.

Faris Baghwat, a film team missionary, came upon a very difficult situation for a new believer in a border village.

Pradyot Hatwal had made the decision to respond to the love of Christ just a few weeks earlier when non-Christians in his village began plotting against him and his family. Some anti-Christian activists were encouraging the other villagers to seize all of Pradyot’s property and physically force him and his family out of their community. Some of Pradyot’s non-Christian relatives even joined in the plot.

Hearing about this tense situation, GFA missionary Amar Nischal, the pastor who had shared the Gospel with Pradyot, called on his small congregation to fast and pray for God to intervene.

Their prayers were answered when, at a meeting in which the villagers planned to seize Pradyot’s earthly goods and drive him out, other Christians in the village stepped in and defended their brother. That was enough to send the activists away empty handed.

Pradyot and his family were deeply grateful for the prayers of their fellow believers and thankful to God for His powerful acts. They still fear, however, that the non-Christians are planning action against them and ask for continuing prayer for their tenuous situation.
