In James Robison’s newest book, the author, pastor and talk-show host shares the life lessons he’s gleaned from wildlife, including his beloved dachshund, Princess. God of All Creation: Life Lessons from Pets and Wildlife is a series of essays that parallel animal behavior with Scripture.
Robison examines a wide range of species such as cats, foxes and mayflies. In one essay Robison highlights baby rattlesnakes, who—contrary to popular belief—are more dangerous than their adult counterparts. Because a younger snake can’t discern threats, it will strike at anything. Nature’s lesson here, Robison says, is that Christians can’t merely focus on “big” sins such as murder and adultery at the expense of “little” sins such as pride and envy. Seemingly innocuous sins can cause great spiritual damage.
Just as pets look to their human masters with a reverent devotion, Robison concludes with a reminder that people should strive for the same posture with their divine Master.
