Ephesians 5:25-27 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless….”

Women if we are honest with ourselves, the number one thing we long for in our marriages, friendships, life is communication. Men have been pounded with this request for years from their wives, their mothers, their girlfriends, their sisters, and their daughters. But have you ever wondered why communication is so important to a woman? It is not primarily because they want to be in the know, but that is a by-product of communication; it is not because they don’t trust you, at least for many of us that is not the reason; the reason women long for communication is two-fold, #1 because they are created in the image of God and He longs for it as well and #2 because it waters their soul.

Communication is water to our souls!

God understands that communication is water to our souls, which is why He is a God that speaks to us. He understands that if He is silent, our souls will shrivel up and die. He gave us His word so whenever we are wondering what He is thinking, we can just open the word and if we read long enough He will speak, for He loves to communicate. When people are dry spiritually, it is because they are thirsty to hear His voice. God uses communication to water our souls, which is why He speaks to us, so we can live. 3 John 2 says, “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” God created us to need communication so our souls stay watered and we prosper.

Not only does God communicate with us for our prosperity of soul, but He wants us to communicate with Him as well. This is why we pray and worship, for our communication with God waters His soul, just as His communication with us, waters ours.

So, if you are struggling in your relationship with God or with each other, it is highly probable there is a drought happening and the way to break that is by communicating. For God uses our wet words to break droughts, stop famines, heal marriages, bridge gaps, reconcile relationships, rescue the lost, and heal the sick. Open your mouth and water the soul of those in your life, you will be amazed at how they come alive.
