When John Burton planted a church in Manitou Springs, Colorado, he got more spiritual warfare than he bargained for.

He soon found out that the city has a history and reputation of witchcraft, which plunged Burton into what he calls “on-the-ground training,” especially regarding how to respond to witchcraft attacks.

At one point during his ministry, a witch came to his church asking for deliverance. Burton and his wife visited the witch’s house but could not seem to get breakthrough while praying there.

“We decided to pray through the house,” Burton says. “The moment I stepped into her bedroom, the only way I could describe it is like I stepped into a swimming pool sideways. … I couldn’t breathe, and I tried to pray in the Spirit, and I could not.”

When the woman sheepishly pointed out the altar at the side of her bed that she used for sacrifices, Burton knew why he couldn’t pray.

After they threw the altar in the trash, Burton received a prophetic word so specific that it forced the woman to share a shocking confession.
