Anthony Scalone was thrown from his motorcycle and ended up folded in half under the car. He thought his life was over but survived by God’s grace. His back suffered a fracture, and many weeks of difficult recovery followed. He not only dealt with a painful recovery but also with the bondage of the habit-forming prescription medication.
Then it happened: A Christian friend invited Anthony to pray. She asked if he believed that Jesus could heal him. Anthony said, “Yes, I believe that Jesus could do that.” They began to pray, and Jesus Christ walked into the room with His presence permeating everything! They were speechless. They were overwhelmed, and Anthony was healed.
Some hear of encounters like this and wonder if they’re real. Does Jesus still enter rooms with doors that are shut? Does He still draw close to those who pray? Does God really want us to encounter Him personally? The answer to all these questions is a resounding yes.
God the Father sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to be seen, touched and experienced. God wanted to manifest His Son, and He wanted people to encounter Him. Today, thank God, Jesus isn’t hiding, and He’s able to be encountered by all who long to know Him. He still responds to the heart-cry of those who call upon Him with faith. The Word of God is still true when it says, “God is our refuge and strength, a well-proven help in trouble” (Ps. 46:1).
God encounters us in many ways. It may be through His written Word in the Bible, through a preacher’s message, through a word of knowledge from a friend or His quiet and peaceful voice during prayer. Nevertheless, they are all unmistakably powerful and able to transform us.
