Generational curses wreak havoc on the bloodlines of so many. If you look back on your family history and find devastating circumstances, like poverty, chronic illnesses, abuse, addiction, divorce and destructive relationship patterns or imprisonment, and discover that these sin issues present themselves generation after generation, it is likely a bloodline curse.
Why Do Generational Curses Happen?
Generational curses land upon you or those in your family because the accuser of the brethren used something in your, or your family’s, past against you in the courts of heaven. The enemy has brought a case against you.
Revelation 12:10 says, “Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, ‘Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.'”
How Do You Get Set Free from Generational Curses?
Jesus gave the disciples the Lord’s prayer as a framework for how to pray in the courts of heaven. This framework was to acknowledge the Father in heaven, honor His name, ask for His will to be done, request provision, repent, ask for forgiveness, grant forgiveness to others and ask for protection from temptation.
Using Jesus’ prayer, here’s how we move forward in the courts of heaven:
Praise the Lord and acknowledge tour Father. We have a righteous judge seated on the throne. Because of Jesus, we can boldly approach His throne in our time of need, according to Hebrews 4:14-16: “Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
1. Honor His name. As you honor the name of the Lord in the courts through prayer, you are proclaiming with a conscious understanding that the Lord’s courtroom is the spiritual control center of the universe. Psalm 50:1-2 reads, “The Mighty One, God the Lord, has spoken and called the earth from the rising of the sun to its going down. Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God will shine forth.” The Lord is the righteous judge, mighty one and Creator.
2. Request his will be made manifest. Jesus said to pray for God’s Kingdom to come and His will be done on earth. Where is His will recorded before it reaches earth? In the heavenly books located in the heavenly courts. Too often, we pray for our will to be done and want the Lord to bless it. We would have many more answered prayers if we aligned our wills with His and asked for them to be made manifest. Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” His will is always better than ours.
3. Ask the Spirit to reveal the source of the generational curse. Examine your own life and the fruit of your choices. This will reveal the curse. Then ask Holy Spirit to reveal where and when this problem started. He is faithful to answer. Second Thessalonians 3:3 reads, “But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.”
4. Repent, forgive, renounce. This is the step where the freedom is activated. Repent of the sins Holy Spirit revealed to you from your choices and/or your generational line. Forgive yourself and those in your family. Renounce the curse in the courts of heaven, stopping its ability to continue to steal from you. Remember John 10:10, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
I’ve battled in the courts of heaven for decades, and the Lord is faithful to release freedom and revelation, cutting off the sin structures that the accuser brought against my family for generations.
If you find yourself battling the same sin issues as the generations before you, enter the courts of heaven, repent of the sin, forgive others and renounce its ability to continue to come against you in Jesus’ name!
Jesus paid the price for you to live free. Isn’t it time you receive the freedom and give Him glory?
