Are You an Effective, Spirit-Led Witness?

Before Jesus left the earth, He kept emphasizing to His disciples the promise of the arrival of the Holy Spirit. This manifestation was going to be the key to getting the message of the gospel out into the world. All of us have a message that we must get out into the world, and it is not a message that is so much spoken as it is lived. One of the things we must understand when it comes to fulfilling our purpose in life—when it comes to getting our core message that God has given us to the world—is that we can only do it through the grace that is given by the Holy Spirit.

We have been talking about the Holy Spirit because it’s vital for believers to understand who the Holy Spirit is, how He operates and how to make sure that we partner with Him in our lives. I believe that we have not done a very good job in the church with teaching the message of transformation and showing people how to partner with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the one who has been sent to help us through life and to guide us so that we can accomplish the will of God and fulfill our purpose.

Pentecostal churches used to put a lot of emphasis on the Holy Spirit, but it was more dealing with manifestations where people spoke in tongues and “felt” something supernatural. Then they would respond to the Holy Spirit based on that feeling. This evolved into the usage of the gifts and the manifestations of the Spirit which came about as a result of tapping into the gifts and graces of which the Holy Spirit enables. However, in doing all of this, there really wasn’t an emphasis, like there should have been, with regard to our relationship and our walk with the Holy Spirit.

Jesus said that the Holy Spirit would empower us to be witnesses. A witness delivers a message in word, in deed or through both. The Holy Spirit has been sent to empower us to communicate a message to the world. Often the reason why believers are showing up with a lack of power, not fulfilling this message that God would have them fulfill, not operating in purpose, not being the light, not being the salt, is because they have not cultivated the relationship with the Holy Spirit needed to walk out their destinies.
