5 Steps to Defeat the Evil Spirit of Jezebel on a National Level

It’s easy to get mad at other people, says author and national radio host Dr. Michael Brown. Media isn’t fair. The courts are biased. Schools are brainwashing kids. The porn industry is evil. Hollywood is pumping out trash. The internet giants are anti-Christian. LGBT activists are taking away rights.

“We all have our list of grievances,” adds the author of Jezebel’s War with America: The Plot to Destroy Our Country and What We Can Do to Turn the Tide. “And many of them are quite valid. We do have reason to be grieved, and people are responsible for their actions. At the same time, our real enemies are spiritual. Our biggest battle is with satanic powers. How, then, do we defeat Jezebel on a national level?”

Brown’s popular book, Jezebel’s War with America, focuses on the fact that the spirit of the biblical figure Jezebel is at work today, through a fascination with radical feminism coupled with the extreme pro-abortion movement, along with a preoccupation with witchcraft and sorcery, and other spiritual and cultural forces, in an attempt to destroy America.

“Obviously, if we want to help others, we must get our own houses in order,” Brown continues. “As some of us said years ago during court battles over the public display of the Ten Commandments, the biggest problem is not that we’ve taken these commandments out of our schools; it’s that we removed them first from our hearts and homes. First, we get our own houses in order, then we turn to the nation.”

Brown says there are five steps to begin the process of defeating Jezebel as a nation:

  1. We must give ourselves to prayer. Knowing that the greatest battle is spiritual, Brown says, we understand how we must wage war.

“It begins on our knees,” he says. “It begins in the prayer room and at the prayer meeting. It begins with fasting, with intercession, with prevailing prayer and persevering prayer, with fervent prayer and focused prayer. It begins with crying out—real, genuine, crying out to our Father—and with faith-filled rebuking of the enemy. When we pray like this, we will see results. When we take hold of God’s promises, when we reverently hold Him to His Word, when we exercise our spiritual authority, things will happen. They must!

  1. The prophets must speak. The prophets were certainly silenced during the days of Jezebel. She was literally killing them, and the suffering was acute. To venture out and speak meant a certain death.

“This does not excuse the silence of the prophets, and not all were silent,” Brown says. “But today in America who is putting a gun to our heads or a knife to our throats? Who is threatening us with death if we speak? And yet so many of us are silent. So many have retreated. So many have given way to a spirit of fear. So many have made a bargain with the devil, basically saying, ‘I won’t bother you if you don’t bother me.’

“I’m talking about preachers, pastors, prophets, and local and national leaders,” he added. “Thank God for those with holy backbone. Thank God for those who are willing to pay the price to take a stand. Thank God for those who speak the truth in love, who walk in courage, who don’t back down. But all too many are in self-imposed spiritual exile. All too many have taken the path of least resistance. This cannot continue!”

  1. Push back. It’s not just a matter of leaders speaking up, Brown says. The body must stand together and push back against radical activism. How did some of it happen? The church in America ignored the handwriting on the wall.

“We ignored the warnings from those who were speaking up,” he said. “We didn’t want to seem intolerant. We didn’t listen when our kids came home from school with some very strange reports. Plus, we’re too busy. Those excuses don’t stand up anymore, and little by little, in state after state, believers are pushing back. They’re respectfully telling their employers they cannot comply with an unfair policy. They’re going with their children to meet with school administrators to say with grace but with firmness, ‘This is not going to happen on my watch.’ They’re taking a stand even when it costs them their jobs, then taking the case to court with the help of Christian legal organizations and even winning at the Supreme Court level.”

  1. Let’s learn what we can from former President Trump. There are lessons to be learned from President Donald Trump when it comes to taking a stand and pushing back, although quite obviously there are many things that cannot and should not be learned from him, Brown says. But there are three things we can learn from the president that are especially effective when dealing with Jezebel.

Don’t avoid confrontation. We often try so hard to be nice. At all costs we do not want to offend. But sometimes confrontation is necessary, and there are scores of biblical examples for this. Nathan the prophet confronted King David (2 Sam. 12). Paul confronted Peter (Gal. 2). Proverbs 27:5 says, “Better is open rebuke than hidden love” and Ephesians 4:15 calls us to “speak the truth in love.”

Don’t be a slave of public opinion. It’s becoming increasingly clear that Trump controls the media much more than the media controls Trump. This is not to say he doesn’t care about polling and negative reports. Nor is this to say we should turn a deaf ear to the voices of others. Shepherds need to be attentive to their sheep. But all too often as Christian leaders, we are more concerned with human opinion than divine opinion, more wanting to please other people than to please the Lord. And all too often, we tell people what they want to hear rather than what they need to hear.

Don’t be afraid to ride out the storm. Some would call this stubbornness; others conviction; others foolishness. But it’s clear that Trump is not afraid to take a stand, take some hits and hold to his guns, believing that over time he will be proven right. In our case, we are assured of the final triumph of the kingdom of God. We also know that societies, like individuals, reap what they sow. That means our message will rise to the surface as the folly of the world’s wisdom and ways is exposed.

  1. The castrated males must regain their manhood. Many men have been emasculated by sexual sin, stealing their confidence and manhood, and making them into self-condemning slaves. Others have been emasculated by the spirit of radical feminism, causing them to doubt themselves and shrink from a leadership role in their home.

“Men must not let Jezebel win!” Brown says. “Our nation needs you. Our families need you. Our children need you. Our pulpits need you. My brothers, we need you to take hold of biblical manhood, using Jesus as your example, rather than some beer-guzzling TV tough guy. We need you to stand tall. To be strong. To lead well. To be spiritual. To mix compassion with toughness and humility with courage. It doesn’t matter what has spiritually or emotionally castrated you in the past, be it your upbringing or dynamics in your marriage or denominational politics or a moral failure. Jesus is a redeemer and a restorer, and with His help you can become a real man, a biblical man, a godly man.

Brown Jezebel book
“Jezebel may have ruled you for many years, but it’s time to cast her down,” he concluded. “Get her out of your head, your heart and your life. Together, both men and women together, we will see this wicked stronghold defeated. Jezebel is coming down!” {eoa}
