The gift of prophecy can be powerful but also commonly misunderstood and even ridiculed by traditional denominations. The Bible is clear about this gift.
The apostle Paul wrote about it and encouraged every believer to desire this gift in his letters to the Corinthian church. Paul wrote his letters as instructions to the church and believers. Still, it seems today that many traditional Christians cherry-pick Paul’s letters and only apply what fits into their personal experience or church history.
The prophetic gift, when operating correctly, is God speaking to us. It makes perfect sense that God wants to talk to His beloved children. The prophetic gift is one of the many ways He chooses to do that. The book of Timothy instructs us not to despise this gift, yet that is what many traditional denominations have done.
I often have asked people who study the Bible, “Have you met and spoken to the author lately?” The prophetic gift is so powerful, it’s no surprise that Satan tries to discredit and counterfeit it every chance he gets. I have been blessed to train prophets for over 20 years. I have seen the good, the bad and the ugly (yes, that is a Clint Eastwood reference). The devil would never pervert something if it were not essential.
In my interview with Dr. Nina Gardner on a recent episode of Self Talk on the Charisma Podcast Network, we bring clarity to the difference between the office of the prophet and the gift of prophecy.
It is incredible that in Ephesians 4, most Christians have no problem accepting the fact that there are pastors, teachers and evangelists. Still, they struggle with the rest of the verse that talks about apostles and prophets. I firmly believe every Christian has a command in Scripture to desire the gift of prophecy.
I also believe strongly that the Lord would never ask us to desire something He would not give to us. Is it possible for every believer to operate in a prophetic gift? I say, according to the Bible, it most definitely is possible.
