5 Urgent Calls to the Charismatic Church

In the wake of the Jan. 6 riots at the United States Capitol and the inauguration of Joe Biden, several popular prophets released apology statements for missing the mark with their predictions regarding Trump’s reelection. While these statements encouraged the hopes of many charismatics looking for a course correction in the prophetic movement, they also exposed what one prophet calls a “sickness in parts of the charismatic church.”

This sickness is nowhere more clearly described than in Jeremiah Johnson’s Facebook post from Jan.10:

Over the last 72 hours, I have received multiple death threats and thousands upon thousands of emails from Christians saying the nastiest and most vulgar things I have ever heard toward my family and ministry. I have been labeled a coward, sellout, a traitor to the Holy Spirit, and cussed out at least 500 times. We have lost ministry partners every hour and counting.

After publicly repenting on January 7th, I fully expected to be called a false prophet etc in some circles but I could have never dreamed in my wildest imagination that so much satanic attack and witchcraft would come from charismatic/prophetic people. I have been flabbergasted at the barrage of continued conspiracy theories being sent every minute our way and the pure hatred being unleashed.

To my great heartache, I’m convinced parts of the prophetic/charismatic movement are far SICKER than I could have ever dreamed of. I truthfully never realized how absolutely triggered and ballistic thousands and thousands of saints get about Donald Trump. It’s terrifying! It’s full of idolatry!

Johnson went on to reiterate his commitment to deep repentance, the gospel and disciple-making in his call.

Regardless of where one lands with respect to the outcome of the election or the handling of election predictions, it is crucial that the people of God agree that many of the reactions to Johnson’s apology are categorically sinful and evil. There is no place for such behavior among the people of God.

This sickness must be confronted with deep humility and repentance and the fear of the Lord.

In response to the events of Jan. 6 and the exposed sickness in parts of the charismatic movement, I have shared five urgent calls to the charismatic church in this episode of Jesus Movement Now on the Charisma Podcast Network. It is my conviction that these are necessary steps to confronting this sickness and playing our unique part in today’s Jesus movement. {eoa}
