Intercede for It and Then Go for the Goal

Lord, help us to effectively intercede it. Thank You that we are Your workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works that You have prepared in advance for us. Show us those Ephesians 2:10 works.

Do you ever stop to consider how amazing it is that God Almighty chooses to work through the prayers of his people? Intercession is definitely a privilege, and because of Jesus, we can approach the throne of grace with boldness and confidence (Heb. 4:16).

Personally, I have interceded more for our country in the past three months than I have my entire life. It’s a calling that can be quite consuming and heavy. Sometimes, you just need a good laugh.

Can you relate? Recently, this greater sense of responsibility and concern brought comic relief as it resulted in a hilarious slip-up in speech that turned out to be a trail of encouragement and exhortation.

Last week during my son’s high school soccer game, the other team kicked the ball uncomfortably close to our goal. In an attempt to spur our team on, I intended to yell, “Intercept it!” Instead, I blurted out, “Intercede it!”

At first what I misspoke made me laugh. Then the words hit my head like the impact of a soaring soccer ball! “Intercede it” … “Intercept it” … I passed the words back and forth in my mind. That’s exactly what our prayers do! Through intercession, we attempt to block the goals of the enemy! Whatever his evil plan for the time is, we need to “intercede it!”

However, despite our heartfelt prayers, sometimes the Lord allows the enemy to “score” or even win a game. Such appears to be the case at this time in our country. Unlike with sports though, what defines the end of a game is not so cut and dried; after all, we can’t see a cosmic scoreboard with a countdown. We’ve all experienced that the Great I Am’s clock is definitely not the one used by man.
