Have you ever broken a bone? If so, you know what it’s like to go through a painful healing process.

Consider what that might feel like in the spiritual realm. Sometimes we can get broken in various ways in life, but God wants to “set” our broken bones and give us healing.

Penny Maxwell wrote “Setting Broken Bones” to help others lean into God for His strength for past hurts and understand how He will heal your wound when you surrender it to Him.

Too often Christians wrap bandages around their pain with more church, more good works, more Bible reading plans and other seemingly spiritual activities to distract themselves from the pain. They avoid dealing with the true issue. Or, they could have healed improperly from the wounds.

Sometimes, painful memories of an emotional injury is so great that people don’t want to go back and revisit that pain. Many people opt out of willingly dealing with past pains because the anticipation of more pain keeps them from truly getting the needed healing. However, pain is an indicator of a situation that needs attention. Pain could be your best teacher, if you allow it.

To become healed, you have to give yourself the right to heal. Healing hurts. But it is worth the discomfort and pain to heal the way that Jesus intends for you. You can learn to understand God’s heart toward your pain, and He will heal it when you surrender it to Him.

It’s possible to get past the blame and bitterness, find healing from past pain and lean into God for your strength. Then you can press into God for more strength so that you can minister freedom and healing to others.
