Positioning Yourself to Let Holy Spirit Speak to You in Your Sleep

It’s a topic rarely discussed, but I have found it to be one of the best kept secrets to understanding how the Spirit of God gives us insight, counsel, purposes, ideas, witty-inventions, problem-solving, creativity, plans and schemes. It is positioning yourself to receive counsel at night.

Before you jump to the conclusion that this is a wild thought, quickly survey some of the answers you’ve received when facing very difficult circumstances and challenges. Did you awaken with new insight to your situation? Did you have a sudden answer to your problems? Or have you received an idea in a dream?

The first time I heard of someone receiving a creative idea at night involved a craftswoman who was challenged to invent a new way of sewing. She was so desperate for an answer that she prayed and asked for God to help her. That night she dreamed the entire process and awakened to do it just as she saw in her dream.

The great botanist and inventor, George Washington Carver, was known for relying upon the Spirit for creativity. Mr. Carver invented hundreds of practical products from peanuts and sweet potatoes.

“Since new developments are the products of a creative mind, we must therefore stimulate and encourage that type of mind in every way possible.”—George Washington Carver

Every book that I’ve written, I crafted at night in my sleep and awakened to type it. I never go to sleep without praying for the Spirit to counsel me in the night.

“I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel; my affections also instruct me in the night seasons” (Ps. 16:7).

So, don’t waste another night just sleeping. Ask the Spirit to counsel you in the night.

Action Step: Before you sleep tonight, ask the Holy Spirit to give you counsel regarding the challenges that you are facing. {eoa}
