Are we valuing the voice of God?

Like many of us, I started the year by asking the Holy Spirit what my focus for 2021 should be. I was stunned when He responded “You need to value the voice of God.”

After a gulp of humility, I sat with the Holy Spirit to gain a greater understanding. It was then the penny dropped! I realized that He was right—at times I did not value His voice as deeply as I could.

We have all been in a conversation with someone and felt they were not listening to us. This is exactly what He meant. It was time to go deeper and give Him my full attention.

This is important because in 2021 God is going to reveal many plans for the days and years ahead. It is vital that we do not let His words fall by the wayside. This is a year of uprooting the old and planting the new.

One of the key ways we can value God’s voice is to establish our encounters like a milestone is established as a marker on a journey.

In Genesis 28:10-22 we see this was Jacob’s response to God. In a dream, God promised Jacob many blessings, and Jacob responded to this encounter by establishing a milestone to mark the miracle.

When we value something we are intentional about it, we establish it firmly, so it cannot be forgotten. While we may not erect a physical stone when God speaks to us like Jacob did, we can establish this encounter in our hearts by setting it as a testimony in our story.

By marking these moments with God, we build a witness of His character that forms our faith and the faith of those who hear our story.
