Randy Clark, founder of Global Awakening, has seen thousands healed across the globe through his ministry.
But God used Vineyard founder John Wimber to teach Clark, who at the time pastored a small Baptist church, a lesson that would forever change his life and his ministry. He shares the story with Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of Greenelines on the Charisma Podcast Network.
Wimber, Clark says, had invited him to a large church where he was preaching. Wimber told him to “follow him like a shadow, and then watch, and then after the meeting was over, ask him questions.”
What Clark didn’t realize, he says, was that Wimber intended to mentor him because “he had heard God speak about what He was going to do in my life later on.”
The first night of Wimber’s meeting, Clark says, “Everybody he prayed for got healed. The next night, nobody he prayed for got healed—not one. I’ve never seen that happen—just that one night.
“So on the way out of the meeting, toward his room, he asked me if I had any questions.
“I said, ‘I do.’
“‘And so let me tell you what your question is.’
“I said, ‘OK, tell me.’
“‘You want to know why everybody I prayed for last night got healed, and nobody tonight that I prayed for got healed. Is that your question?'”
Of course, Clark responded in the affirmative.
“And he looked at me, and he kind of smiled,” Clark says. “But he also said, ‘You still don’t get it. Do you?’ … And then he said, ‘Randy, I had no more faith last night I did tonight—when everybody got healed last night, and nobody tonight. I didn’t have any more sin in my life tonight than I did last night.
“All I did last night was stick out my hand, say, ‘Come, Holy Spirit,’ just blessed whatever God did,” Wimber told Clark. “And that’s what I did tonight. Last night, I didn’t go to bed feeling like I was this great man of God. And tonight, I’m not going to bed feeling like I’m a great failure of God. And tomorrow, I’m going to get up and do it again.”
“That changed my life,” Clark says. “In that moment … I realized, this great healing anointing on Wimber is totally God. And he’s just a humble man willing to work and make himself available. And he said, ‘I just stick out my fat hand and say, ‘Come, Holy Spirit.’ And I said, ‘I can do that.’ I can stick out my hand and say, ‘Come, Holy Spirit,’ and then try to bless whatever happens.
“That was the turning point. I really saw John Wimber, and I want to honor him as a man of God. But I had him on a pedestal. And nobody could be like him. I couldn’t be like him. But it was in his moment of weakness that was so encouraging to me,” Clark says.
