Assemblies of God World Missions Executive Director Greg Mundis is making a miraculous recovery from COVID-19, the AGWM reports.

AGWM Advancement Director Randy Hurst says Mundis is now out of ICU after being in a medically induced coma for five weeks, according to a Facebook post released April 27. He is reportedly “off the ventilator, his infections have all cleared and he is talking.”

On March 18, AGWM announced Mundis had tested positive for COVID-19. His wife, Sandie, also contracted the virus.

When Mundis tested positive for COVID-19, the AGWM shared a call to prayer on Facebook, saying: “BREAKING NEWS AND CALL TO PRAYER: AGWM Executive Director Greg Mundis has been positively confirmed as having COVID-19. We ask everyone to intercede for Greg in this crucial time—for complete healing of his lungs and kidneys, and for the Spirit of God to fill his hospital room with God’s healing presence.”

According to Mundis’ son, Dr. Greg Mundis, his parents were taking hydroxychloroquine. He says the anti-malaria medicine seemed to help them recover, although he says the drug is not a “miracle drug.”

Mundis’ condition grew worse, though, until on March 31, he was transferred to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis so he could receive treatment in a specialized pulmonary unit. On April 4, he tested negative for the virus and on April 22, he was allowed to go home to finish his recovery.

“Greg continues to improve at a rapid pace, a reminder to all to never lose hope,” AGWM said on Facebook April 26. “We give thanks to the Lord for his healing, and we will continue to pray until he is well.”

Other AGWM staff also tested positive for the coronavirus as well, including Northern Asia Regional Director Ron Maddux; Maddux’s wife, Penny; and Phyllis Benigas, a missionary to Belgium.

Maddux also struggled for his life during his illness, reports AGWM. The hospital allowed him to go home April 2, and on April 14, Maddux’s son Sam posted a video of his father on Facebook so he could personally thank the thousands of people who prayed for his healing.

“It’s just a little over a week that I’ve been home from the hospital,” he said in the video. “I’m feeling well, I’m stronger every day, I’m almost back to normal. You stepped up, you prayed for me, you had faith, and you trusted God for me, and God stepped in and did a miracle for me and preserved me. Penny also had a mild form of the coronavirus, and God touched her and has healed her as well. We are both now virus free, looking forward to getting out from under lockdown so we can get busy again for Jesus. God bless you, friends. Thank you.”
