Castles in the Sand

What folly it is for us to attempt to gain our own immortality through what we possess or the things we do. God blesses us with the tools to build His kingdom. How tragic when we instead employ them in building our own! He blesses us to enjoy our achievements and the products of our creativity, but these are not to become the source of our fulfillment and security.
Try to imagine which of your works will stand and which ones will perish when subjected to holy judgment. Having the right heart motivations will keep us from wasting our substance on things that will not last. Only what is purely born of the Spirit of God is eternal.

READ: Ps. 39:5-7;  Jer. 17:10-11; Matt. 6:19-21; 7:21-27 Mark 10:17-27; Luke 12:16-21; 1 Tim. 6:17-19.
HEART ISSUE: How we need our hearts purged of self-seeking motives and ambition. We are to glorify God and not become ensnared by our accomplishments and the praises of men.
PRAY: Father, it’s not easy to see our efforts for what they often are–carnal. Purify our motives, and show us our hearts. Help us to desire the rewards that come only from Your hand. We repent of building empires You’ve not instructed us to build. Cause us to understand those desires in us that are of the flesh and those that are of Your eternal Spirit. Let fearfulness not enter into our decisions, only faith that trusts You to reveal Your will. Amen.
