How Spiritual Staleness Has Invaded American Churches

American churches need the fresh wind of the Holy Spirit.

How often do we hear, “It will change your life!”

Don’t miss this moment, this book, this product, this service, because “It will change your life, and your purpose will be realized.”

The phrase is so overused that no one expects change. “It will change your life” bears the same staleness of yesterday. New wrapping paper does not change the stench of the staleness of death. Nor does a new suit hide the fact that the body is dead.

“Spiritual staleness” is invading the life of believers. The plaguing force has different names: compliancy, compromise, lukewarmness and cowardice.

Spiritual staleness must be confronted and never allowed to take up residency. This faith destroyer is always on the prowl to rob, kill and destroy the believer’s vibrant life and the church. Spiritual staleness does not belong in the life of a child of God. Neither does it belong in the His house.

Some have given unconscious consent and would not recognize the wind of the Holy Spirit if He did blow through Sunday morning service. It has been said, “We start at 11 o’clock sharp and end at 12 o’clock dull.”

We need the fresh wind of the Holy Spirit.

Ezekiel stood in the valley of scattered, mixed up, messed up, dry bones. God asked him, “Can these bones live again?”

In Ezekiel 37:9-10, God, the teacher and giver of the breath of life, said, “‘Prophesy to the wind; prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind: Thus says the Lord God: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain so that they live.’ So I prophesied as He commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.”

Fresh air, now! Fresh wind of the Holy Spirit, now!

We will either have revival now or the funerals of a generation that never experience the fresh wind of the Holy Spirit. {eoa}
