Pulling Down Strongholds Is Messy—But Worth It

2 Corinthians 10:4 says, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds.”

We are anointed as God’s children to pull down strongholds. Demonic strongholds can be thoughts, behaviors, systems and agendas. The enemy is defeated, and we can’t allow his tactics to intimidate us. The power of God can uproot any demonic seeds that have been planted in or against us.

“Pulling” in the above Scripture means demolition, destruction and extinction. The Greek word for “pulling” in this Scripture is kathairesis. There are three ways for pulling down strongholds.

The first is demolition. When God deals with demonic strongholds, demolition is in full effect. Imagine a house being torn down. It was once strong or fortified, but now there is nothing left but debris. That’s how it is when the power of God is released to set the captive free.

The second way to pull down strongholds is destruction. God will destroy the enemy’s plans concerning our lives because He is all-powerful. He is so merciful that He will not allow us to stay in bondage. The enemy is no match for Jesus Christ. The enemy melts like wax in the presence of the Lord.

Lastly, when God deals with strongholds, there is an extinction. He does a complete work. God will never start something and not finish it. When God delivers His children, there will be no residue or extinction. That’s why we don’t look like what we have been through, and when we testify of our past, people can’t see us living a sinful lifestyle. All they see is the glory of God upon our lives.
