Our Perfect Treasure

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. —2 Corinthians 4:6-7

What is the treasure Paul is talking about? Grace—the supernatural enabling of God placed in our human vessels. Why? So that “the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.”

God wants to display His power. The only way for Him to show that He can do what you cannot do, is to bring you to the place where you cannot accomplish what you need to accomplish on your own. When you finally say, “I am so discouraged I can’t go on; I have prayed until I can’t pray anymore,” the supernatural enabling of God’s grace will take over.

Unless you are in rebellion, everything that comes into your life is either allowed by God or sent by God. In either case, it is sent to bring you into maturity and make you more like Him. If you will receive your circumstances in that light, you will defeat every devil. You will come out of the fiery furnace not even smelling of smoke (Daniel 3:27).

God, I know that You are working for good in every
situation of my life. So I accept where I am in You and
seek Your guidance in taking every step. Order my steps
in righteousness. Amen.
