Are You Desperate Enough to Have a Jacob Experience with God?

The story of Jacob always amazes me. Jacob’s boldness to ask the Lord to bless him, even after swindling his own brother out of his birthright and inheritance, reveals the compassion of our Lord and His desire to have a relationship with all His children. That night, as Jacob laid under the stars, he began to wrestle. This match was not between two humans but Jacob and the divine. At the end, the man (divine) requested to be released but Jacob refused. His reply, “I will not let you go unless you bless me” (Gen. 32:26, NIV). The result: Jacob was blessed!

Faythe Kadona’s life began with physical abuse and a broken arm at six months old. “I knew what cocaine was at five years old,” Faythe shares. She was eventually removed from her parents and placed with other family. This began her moving around as she grew up. She was molested as a child, began an addiction at age eleven, raped when she was thirteen, sexually trafficked at the age of eighteen, in an abusive marriage with children and eventually trafficked again at the age of thirty-seven, deep in an addiction.

When she was arrested at thirty-seven, she sat in her jail cell. No more drugs to numb her pain and the fear of being harmed gone, she decided it was time for a drastic change in her life. She had always thought “this was my life of pain.” But something inside her broke. She attended church as a child but never understood the love of the Father. That was all about to change.

While Jacob’s story is a biblical story, it also became Faythe’s. Out of her desperation, she cried out to God, “Show me who You are and don’t let go of me. Be the God to me in this moment that I need and show me how I can change. I am not letting go until You rename me!” What transpired was a miracle! Hear Fayth’s story by clicking on the link here.

That is the Lord’s desire for all of us: to rename us, bless us and give us purpose. Are you desperate for God? Be determined like Jacob; don’t let go until you are blessed! {eoa}
