The Seven Pillars of Wisdom

Proverbs 9:1-6 I’ve always wondered what the seven pillars of wisdom were. After studying the sevenfold anointing spoken of in Isaiah 11:2, I concluded that the seven pillars of wisdom must be the seven aspects of the Holy Spirit of the Lord. Isaiah 11:2 says, “And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord” (KJV).

Jesus Christ is all wisdom. He was anointed with seven wonderful aspects of the Holy Spirit—wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, and the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. The Spirit of the Lord contained all of these strong pillars. The number seven means complete. Jesus operated in the complete anointing of the Holy Spirit. The Bible tells us that God’s Word is what holds the earth in place. These seven aspects of the Holy Spirit are the pillars that give support to mankind on earth. If these pillars did not exist in some people on earth, we would have utter chaos.

The seven pillars of wisdom were established even before the foundation of the world. God holds this world together by His Word, and the seven pillars of wisdom give mankind the ability to hold on in faith, no matter if the whole earth is shaken. In the last days the Bible says everything that can be shaken will be shaken. Those who are operating in God’s wisdom will not be shaken. Revelation tells us that those who overcome will be made pillars in the temple of the living God. If we depend upon the Holy Spirit daily as Jesus did while He was on earth, we will be those pillars in eternity.

Don’t you want to be a pillar, someone who overcomes in every circumstance? You can be if you operate daily in the wisdom that comes from God. This wisdom is described in James 3:17: “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.” We also have to refuse to operate in worldly wisdom. Worldly wisdom is full of strife, envy, confusion and every evil work. Which wisdom will be your mode of operation today?

Lord, help me to operate in Your wisdom today. Thank You for Your secure pillars of wisdom that give me strength in a world that seems to be falling apart.
