Stepping into All God Wants for You

It is said that big things come in small packages. And great things can come from small beginnings.

Jesus said in Matthew 17:20 if you have faith the size of a mustard seed—one of the tiniest of all seeds—and if you’ll use that faith and believe, you can speak to mountains (obstacles) and tell them to get out of your way (Mark 11:23-24).

God uses small beginnings. God calls those whom the world would not call. He chooses the seemingly small, insignificant things of the world and in the lives of people to show His glory. (See 1 Corinthians 1:26-27.)

Here are just a couple of many, many examples:

In 1918, Cameron Townsend sold Spanish Bibles in Guatemala. One man said to him, “If your God is so great, why can’t He speak my language?” From that single question, Townsend formed the Wycliffe Bible Translators and as of 2020, Wycliffe has translated the Bible into more than 700 languages.

And certainly the greatest of the “small beginnings” stories … Baby Jesus … born in a lowly stable … unheralded and unrecognized. The morning after He came into this world in Bethlehem, life resumed as if nothing had happened. But oh, the beginning without end that has come about because of that single, miraculous birth!

You see, little is much when God is in it.

Perhaps it’s fear which holds some people back (fear is not from God — See 2 Timothy 1:7). Or maybe it’s a feeling of unworthiness. There may be many “reasons” we use to justify why we can’t do something for God. But many people stand back and practically waste all their lives waiting on some big move of God that they think will “magically” propel them forward to do His will. While the truth of the matter is, God is usually waiting on us to use what He’s already put inside of us to be able to do what He’s called us to do. And that thing He wants us to use? Our faith.

We know from Hebrews 11:6 that without faith, it’s impossible to please God. And James 2:20 tells us that faith without works is dead. In other words, faith without corresponding action is useless and doesn’t produce anything of lasting value. Those who are successful in pursuing and fulfilling God’s call TRUST God … they OBEY God … and they put ACTION to their FAITH in Him … And they accomplish great things that we admire and want to emulate.

The good news is God has already put inside you the exact giftings and talents that you need to do whatever He calls you to do. So, I encourage you today to first pray about what you believe God is telling you; then, secondly, obey Him to the best of your ability; and third, step out in faith believing that when you do, God will show you His favor, give you creative ideas and undergird you with His grace and provision.

The podcast interviews I’ve linked with this article will encourage you to step out and into whatever it is God has called you to do. You can do it! God’s Word says you can… “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Phil. 4:13, NKJV).
