Women and the Gospel

Now upon the first day of the week…they [the women] came unto the sepulcher…And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. —Luke 24:1, 3

Women were called and commissioned by the angel sent from heaven, and by the Lord Jesus Christ, to preach the gospel (Matt. 28:5-10).

The cowardly disciples had forsaken the Savior and fled. Peter denied the Savior and swore that he never knew him, but many women followed Him and stood by the cross. They went on to the sepulcher and saw the body laid away with a great stone door over the tomb. (Matt. 27:55-61).

These women went home sad and broken-hearted. They spent the night in preparing to embalm the body of their Lord. Then they returned to pay a last tribute to a dear friend. They came to the tomb on the first day of the week. The grave was empty. The Lord was not there. The women were the first to witness the resurrected Lord and to be commissioned to proclaim the gospel.

Observe the wonderful mission that Jesus had entrusted to these weak women: they were to preach the first resurrection sermon and to risk their lives gathering together the followers of Christ. God is calling women today all over the world to work in various places in the vineyard and proclaim that He is risen.

Lord, mightily use women to declare
Your resurrection to the world. Amen.
