These I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations. —Isaiah 56:7

David knew that the fullness of God would not come to pass in his generation without night-and-day prayer, which is why he was consumed with zeal for the house of God. This vision so consumed him that he set up a prophetic worship ministry to the Lord with four thousand musicians and two hundred eighty-eight singers (1 Chron. 23-25). One of the central themes of Scripture ever since that time is how God has been building the house of prayer throughout the generations. There is struggle in the process of fulfilling God’s purpose. Through the Word we see how He gathers the people, they fall and stumble in the process, then He gathers them again and gives them victory. He allows struggle so that when the victory comes, our hearts are protected by the grace of humility. At the end of natural history, God says, “My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.”

{ PRAYER STARTER }

Father, I recognize with David that there is struggle in the process of fulfilling Your purposes for my life. Teach me to make my life a life of prayer. Let me bow before you night and day, that I might be a house of prayer upon this earth.

We have a lot to learn from David, who was
a glorious prophetic picture of the
end-time house of prayer God will
establish across the earth.
