Let Your Ceiling Become Their Floor

There is a reason parents have the responsibility they have. Whenever parental authority is given by God, it is important for that child or children to honor and value who their parents are. The goal of parenting is to represent our Father in heaven and disciple our children to live for Him. Unfortunately, since every parent in the world has been born into sin, this means our parents will fail. As children, we must learn how to forgive and honor our parents, despite what they did or did not do for us.

Parents, let me encourage you to not make it difficult for your children to live for Jesus.

In 1 Chronicles 22:5 (NIV) David said, “My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the Lord should be of great magnificence and fame and splendor in the sight of all the nations. Therefore I will make preparations for it.” So David made extensive preparations before his death.

David was Israel’s most beloved king. Yet David failed many times throughout his life. He is known for his adultery, murder and disobeying God on different occasions. However, God calls David “a man after God’s own heart.” What does this mean for parents? It means that if we will walk in humility before our heavenly Father, then He will help us even through our own failures and shortcomings to make sure we prepare our children for success.

Do not let the world’s image of success confuse you with what kingdom success looks like.

Ultimately, God the Father is the one who is in control of the success of humanity. God never fails and if we will lean into Him (even through parenting), He will always have our backs.

The key to parenting is allowing God to Father you.

God knows how to take the height of your ceiling and turn it into the ground level for your children to go beyond what you were able to do.

Isaiah 58:12 (NKJV): “Those from among you shall build the old waste places; You shall raise up the foundations of many generations; And you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, The Restorer of Streets to Dwell In.”

Please listen to my recent Revival Cry podcast episode, which includes my wife Casey and I as we interview our five children. In the past couple of years, life has changed dramatically for our family. We have served as missionaries to the Philippines for 17 years up until March 2020 when we came to the USA. The reason why we did this interview with our children is so you may be encouraged that despite unexpected changes and lots of traveling, we are flourishing as a family as we proclaim the kingdom of heaven and strive to make Jesus famous in America and the nations! {eoa}
