Mario Murillo: How Do We Bring God Into This National Crisis?

Some of us are enraged and others are exhausted. Is there proof out there that a handful of villains control our choices and overrule our rights?

The answer is yes. But that proof is a viciously—even supernaturally—guarded secret.

Many are roaring that we are not a free people, and we must uncover our electronic slavery. Others despair, having witnessed repeated failures to expose the lie.

I do not want to diminish the crisis, but I believe we must look deeper. To bring God into this national crisis we must see the deeper lies. Look at these verses:

Acts 4:16-17, …saying, “What shall we do to these men? For, indeed, that a notable miracle has been done through them is evident to all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. But so that it spreads no further among the people, let us severely threaten them, that from now on they speak to no man in this Name.”

What do you see in there? You see men so evil that in the face of an undeniable and publicly verified miracle they must silence it to save their positions of power. Sound familiar? They even said, “We cannot deny it”!

Why are we surprised that America is suffering under tyranny when, long before this, they did the same thing to the gospel of Christ?

The healing of the lame man at the Gate Beautiful is notable, but so are the millions of Americans who have been transformed by Jesus throughout our history.

The same people that hate freedom, hate God. In the field of medicine, we tend to suppress the testimony of healings. In secular education, we redact the history of spiritual awakenings. In social work, the compelling power of Jesus to get addicts off drugs is brushed aside.

There is not a social ill that has been left untouched by Christ.

The God-haters know that in Jesus, we can solve our national problems: race, poverty, crime and addiction. But they attack it. They mock it. The surpassing power of Jesus to solve America’s deepest wounds is banned. Not because it does not work. Not because there is no proof—but simply because it threatens the powers that be.

Today, we need the deeper miracle before the political one. How do we do it?

The explanation is embedded in the story. Acts 4:21, “So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way of punishing them, because of the people, since they all glorified God for what had been done.”

We must take our case directly to the people—and we must resist the false leaders who would silence the gospel: “But Peter and John answered and said to them, ‘Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard’” (vs. 19-20).

Peter understood this censorship—that is why he led the church in prayer. He knew that more miracles were needed. He knew that if God broke out among the people it would not matter what the leaders did.

He brought his case to God asking for boldness and miracles.

Acts 4:29-30, “Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.”

This week in Roseville, California, we will prove the power of bringing God into the national crisis! Souls that need Christ will be saved. Bodies that need healing will be healed by Jesus.

If we could only understand this: the flame of awakening which begins by winning souls and demonstrating the miracle working power of God can rise high enough to expose the lies and bring judgment on the demonic oppression and injustice that plagues our nation.

Mario Murillo rose from poverty in the Mission District of San Francisco. After being revolutionized by Christ, he felt a call to the University of California at Berkeley. His international ministry was launched after a four-day conference in San Jose, California, extended for six months with a total attendance of nearly 250,000 people. Since then, Mario’s voice has been heard by millions around the world, bringing a message that zeroes in on the hurts of society. He presents Christ clearly and intelligently, and openly declares the power of Jesus to totally transform a life. His simple declaration: Come and see. Christ has the power to end addiction, racism, violence and disease.
