In 1974, I had an encounter with God and revelation of the blood of Jesus changed my life forever. God manifested Himself to me when I started reading the Bible. I started at Leviticus. I know that is probably not your favorite book in the Bible. It may even be your least favorite. It is my favorite because that is where I met God. I had an Emmaus road experience while studying the book of Leviticus. What do I mean by an “Emmaus road experience?”
You’ll recall that after Jesus was resurrected, He appeared to two of His disciples who were walking on the road to the village of Emmaus. They thought that Jesus was the Messiah but lost all hope when He was crucified. They did not know He was raised from the dead. Naturally when He appeared to them, they did not recognize Him. He was the last person they thought they would ever see again—alive!
But then Jesus revealed to them how the Old Testament (Hebrew Bible) was a picture of Himself. Luke explains, “Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized Him. And He vanished out of their sight. They said to each other, ‘Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us on the way and while He opened the Scriptures to us?'” (Luke 24:31-32)? Luke goes on to say that these two disciples began to share what the Lord taught them (Luke 24:35).
In God’s predetermined plan for my life, He let me be a third disciple on that road to Emmaus. He let me hear what Jesus said to them. But it happened while I was studying Leviticus. It happened so fast I can only explain it as a “heaven second.” It was an instant bright picture flash like the flash of a camera.
It was as if God instantly downloaded into my spirit the whole story of the Bible. I saw in a visual revelation that the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) was a picture of Jesus and how all the pieces, books of the Bible, fit together. The Lord opened my spiritual eyes to see by revelation what I could not see by study alone.
