Grief May Last for a Moment, But God’s Faithful Grasp Endures Forever

Psalm 119:89-91 says, “Forever, O Lord, Your word is established in heaven. Your faithfulness is for all generations; You have established the earth, and it is firm. They continue this day according to Your ordinance, for all are Your servants.”

This month, we recognize and celebrate women in ministry and both their victories and struggles during this crazy pandemic.

In this episode of One Voice with Janet Swanson on the Charisma Podcast Network, we look at the women of the lineage of Jesus and their struggles. “It’s quite scandalous,” my dear friend Kathy Burnsed says.

She also opens up to us in this episode about her own struggles during the pandemic, a time when she lost both of her parents. Kathy is funny, inspirational and down to earth, and she is a speaker and the author of a book titled Beating the Clock, Managing Time God’s Way.

So many ministers have quit and thrown in the towel during the pandemic. We have seen scandalous and heart wrenching stuff come to light about ministers, from Ravi Zacharias and the sexual and spiritual abuse to pastors who have committed suicide. This pandemic has not been easy. Just two years ago, Kathy hosted a conference called “Discovery,” and was a lot discovered recently in the face of trials!

Kathy is a motivational speaker and has worked in the church and on television for years. So, she was accustomed to crazy things happening all around her. But 2020 and leading into 2021 was the year God would take her by the hand and lead her through the deepest and darkest times of her life as she grieved the loss of both of her parents. She felt worthless and like God could never use her again. Until she began to read about some of the women in the Bible that God used!

Kathy suffered with depression, and it seemed like she couldn’t crawl her way out of this one … but God intervened. What inspires me the most is that Kathy used her voice to reach out and get help. This seems so taboo sometimes in the church … but not anymore. She had grief counseling that helped put things into perspective for her again. I believe another book will be birthed out of this experience.

God always takes what the enemy means for harm and turns it around for our good. He’s such a good, faithful God! He’s always on time and never misses a beat! As Kathy and I were talking, you could feel the sweetness of the Holy Spirit enter the room. I’ve never sang on a podcast before, but I felt God speak to me to sing, “Great Is Thy Faithfulness!”

His mercies are new every morning, and He’s a faithful God. With tears streaming down both of our faces, the Holy Spirit swept over us as we talked about the pain and trials of life and God’s faithfulness! Walking with God is so beautiful. The more I walk with Him, the more I desire and love Him!

What inspires me the most about Kathy is her ability to make me laugh, even when her heart is broken. She carries that kind of anointing. When you listen to her or read her book, you will get to know the real Kathy because she’s the same on the stage as she is in a pandemic crisis. She’s real, down to earth, funny, inspiring and encouraging!
