The New Year is a time of setting new goals. What are your goals for the New Year? Sadly, studies show that most goals and resolutions fail by early February. Only 8% maintain long-term. Why? Because most do not align their goals with God’s vision for their lives in the New Year.

For decades, I’ve applied God’s Word, changed according to the Word and experienced a transformation. I’ve seen others do the same.

I have lived by 5 key principles and revisit them and my goals throughout the year to ensure I’m in alignment with God.

Key Principles to Align Your Goals with God’s

There are 5 key principles that have to be applied when aligning your goals with God’s….

Seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness first.

Matthew 6:33-34 tells us exactly where to start: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

This has to be your focus as you go into a new season and a new year. It is the key to growing and having all you need to answer your call. Your goals must be tied to His kingdom. Instead of focusing on performance, focus on His kingdom.

Remember who gives you power.

Deuteronomy 8:18-20 says, “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. Then it shall be, if you by any means forget the Lord your God, and follow other gods, and serve them and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish. As the nations which the Lord destroys before you, so you shall perish, because you would not be obedient to the voice of the Lord your God.”

Reiterating the point above, it’s not your performance in the flesh that establishes you and brings you into success, it is the Lord your God. He gives you what you need and wants you to remember that He is the one who gives you the ability and power to get wealth. Praise Him and declare it is He alone who gives you strength and power. He does this to establish His covenant with you.

Allow Him to establish His covenant with you.

As Deuteronomy 8:18-20 says, “… that He may establish His covenant…” There is a bigger purpose to why He gives you the ability to answer your call. He wants your life to be a testimony of His greatness. Ask God to build a testimony of His covenant with you in the coming year.

Ephesians 4:13 is a description of the covenant. It says, “…till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ…” He is creating unity as the One New Man. There is unity in the covenant.

Walk in the fruit of the Spirit.

The fruit of the Spirit is evidence of the covenant. It protects you when the enemy brings accusations against you. The fruit prevents the accusations from sticking.

Galatians 5:22-23 says, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”

Believe you are more than a conqueror in Christ.

Romans 8:37-39 says, “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

When you step into your identity and believe who you are in Jesus, God gives you the desires of your heart because your heart’s desire matches His!

In the year ahead, you must cut off the lie that you have lack or will lose. The war has already been won. Operate out of a victor, not a victim, mindset.

Now What?

It’s time to set your goals with God and His kingdom in mind.

● Start by meditating on the principles above. Speak them out, write them down, pray them, and sow according to them.

● Ask the Lord to restore faith and family according to His design. When your heart and mind are set on Him, and you seek to get your home aligned with Him, your goals will fall into place.

● Fellowship according to Isaiah 56:7, “… Make them joyful in My house of prayer.… for My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.”

Strategize with the Lord. Ask Him…

● Where and how do I need to seek You first, Lord?

● How can I keep You as my focus and glorify You in all you do?

● How can I sow into others and my family?

● How do I receive what You have for me so I can accomplish what You have called me to do today?

● What do You want me to prioritize this year?

● What do You want me to let go of this year?

Keep exploring these things with God, and He will reveal more and more to you over time. God is taking us to new levels in the spirit this coming year. Are you ready?
