“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven” (Eccl. 3:1).
In every season of our lives, God orchestrates relationships to fulfill His purposes.
We are in a season where God is shifting many people into some new core relationships and we shouldn’t be afraid of God’s relational realignment. When I saw a prophetic series of visions late last year, one of the main ones that I wanted to dig into was seeing people coming into new relationships for their new assignments.
God is setting you up to be the most supported you have ever been, but he is also bringing you into people’s lives to be a reinforcement.
God Designed You for Companionship for Your Prophetic Purpose
The Bible starts with God giving humanity another person to be completed.
“Then the Lord God said, ‘It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him’” (Gen. 2:18).
God recognizes the importance of healthy relationships and designed us for companionship. God is bringing you into some relationships that will help to make you feel completed in your destiny, purpose and your spiritual fulfillment.
God is Taking Some Relationships Out of Our Lives That Used to Be Core
Whether it’s a relationship that has just grown cold, you have had a disagreement or it’s toxic, there is a realignment right now to set you up for God’s purpose and for your good and the good of those you will be connected to.
Acts 15:39 recounts a significant disagreement between the apostle Paul and Barnabas, two prominent figures in the early Christian community. The dispute arose when Barnabas wanted to bring his cousin Mark along on a missionary journey, while Paul was hesitant due to Mark’s previous abandonment of their mission (Acts 13:13).
This disagreement between Paul and Barnabas, both devoted servants of Christ, serves as a powerful example for us today. It reminds us that even in well-intentioned relationships, conflicts and differences of opinion can arise. These conflicts, while challenging and potentially painful, can lead to necessary separations for the sake of future growth.
This is a hard reality for a lot of Christians who want a happy ending to disagreements right now and who teach that every conflict must have an immediate resolution or one party is more “right” than the other.
We also have to allow God to identify if relationships are toxic and deal with those in our lives. As you read the Bible in this season let God identify if you are staying loyal in areas that are not healthy anymore because the person isn’t moving forward in their character. You can’t want their change more than they do. One scriptural example is in Proverbs:
“Make no friendship with a man given to anger, nor go with a wrathful man, lest you learn his ways and entangle yourself in a snare” (Prov. 22:24-25).
Or when someone isn’t invested in looking out for your interests as you are theirs and you have entered into a narcissistic relationship:
“Let each of you look not only to his own interests but also to the interests of others” (Phil. 2:4). Healthy relationships involve mutual care, consideration and selflessness.
Toxic relationships can hinder our growth and lead us astray from God’s plan.
While it is important to press into relationships that are hurting or shaken, seeking restoration through open communication, prayer and counseling, there are times when a relationship becomes toxic and detrimental to our well-being. In such instances, it is crucial to trust God’s guidance and release that relationship into His hands.
Relationships That Normally Take 5-10 Years to Build Will Be Very Quick
God is going to give you relationships with mature believers that normally take a lot of time to develop the foundation and trust, but He will have the equity from your life and their life transfer to one another. This is because He is allowing you to reap what you haven’t sown, and vice versa, and it is a sign of favor.
Even as the disciples inherited a relationship with Jesus over a short period of time that would normally take a lifetime to build, we are going to have a supernatural capacity to relate and have best friends, ministry partners, business partners, even romances because God is accelerating relationships as a sign of His favor and His purpose increasing in your life.
You need every relationship to accomplish all of His promises and when new relationships come that carry His benefits you can recognize that His greater purposes are manifesting.
Established Relationships Will Become Purpose Driven
Additionally, as we transition into new seasons, God may bring certain relationships from the past to continue walking alongside us. Examples of this can be seen in the relationships between David and Jonathan (1 Sam. 18:1-4) and Paul and Timothy (2 Tim. 1:2). However, we must also be open to new relationships that God brings into our lives, for they may hold keys to our destiny and growth.
“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another” (Prov. 27:17). God intends for our relationships to sharpen and edify us, contributing to our growth and well-being.
God is Taking Us Out of the Unequally Yoked and Bad Relationships
But we have to do the work to recognize it so that we can make room for His community He has for us.
“Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers.” (2 Cor. 6:14). God encourages us to align ourselves with people who share our faith and values, ensuring harmonious relationships.
“Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company ruins good morals.’” (1 Cor. 15:33). We must take personal responsibility for the relationships we engage in and their impact on our lives.
Remember that God is prophetically realigning you in this season to thrive relationally. Seek His wisdom, listen to His voice, and surrender your relationships to His care. Embrace personal responsibility, discern toxic influences, and nurture healthy relationships.
