We cannot afford to dwell on the way things were; the past is over, and we are not going back. All our attention must now be on understanding and aligning with God’s plan, to secure and anchor ourselves firmly in Him and to His blueprint for the future.
We are functioning in God’s time now, where He is dismantling and tearing down anything not built according the plumb line of His mind and heart, and restructuring, rebuilding and planting according to the original blueprint. We are not being reset to the way things were; we are shifting into a whole new dynamic.
In his book The Day of His Power, Arthur Wallis said regarding Jeremiah’s mandate to uproot, tear down and to build, that destruction always precedes the greater work of construction! T. Austin Sparks wrote in an article where God arrested my attention. I felt God was warning that this time would one day be coming. He said: “The Lord’s people had come to a point where there was going to be a devastating blow struck at their corporate life. It was just on the point of that final siege of Jerusalem when everything was going to be shattered and scattered, a great earth shaking was about to take place. Not one stone left upon another.”
How will believers get through this present shaking? We will overcome with a fresh revelation of Jesus, the sovereign Lord, in all His glory and might. I believe we have become way too familiar with a God whose depth we barely understand. The disciples had lived with Jesus for 3 1/2 years, but they barely knew or understood who He was. Peter, James and John got a glimpse of Him in glory on the Mount of Transfiguration, and John was totally unprepared for the Jesus that showed up and called him out on the Isle of Patmos.
“‘I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last.’ … I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And when I turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks, and in the midst of the seven candlesticks was one like a Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and with a golden sash wrapped around the chest. The hair on His head was white like wool, as white as snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire. His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters. He had in His right hand seven stars, and out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword. His appearance was like the sun shining brightly. When I saw Him, I fell at His feet as though I were dead. Then He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am He who lives, though I was dead. Look! I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death'” (Rev. 1:11a,12-18).
It would also be wise for us to take note of the Lord’s messages to the seven churches, which He gave them to prepare them for what was coming.
