Can You Be Trusted With the Prophetic?

by | Jun 2, 2022 | Prophetic Insight

Sometimes people hold back because they think being seen would make them look prideful. However, staying in the shadows when God says to step out, is a type of pride because you’re making it about you.

At times, true humility means stepping out of hiding and exposing yourself to do what God has said to do. With this comes the possibility of criticism, missing it and looking like a fool, people perceiving you the wrong way and so on. Pride in prophecy works two ways. It can be prideful to step out if you are doing it to be seen and promote yourself. It also can be prideful to hold back and stay hidden if you are doing so because of fear of what others may think. The true test either way is your heart’s motive.

Displaying integrity in prophetic ministry means being trustworthy and tight-lipped about those you are ministering to. They’ve let their guards down which puts them in a vulnerable position. The prophecy might have revealed some issues of their heart, or they might have asked for counsel and shared some personal information with you. No one wants to be exposed or gossiped about. And again, integrity means not being manipulative or taking advantage of others for your own personal gain.

Since God brings me before prominent people, for me having integrity means not asking for favors or asking to get financial needs met. I don’t make introductions or do networking. God is capable of opening doors and setting up divine appointments. It’s His job not mine. Having to say no to people has caused issues at times, but unless the Lord specifically instructs me to make an introduction, I will not take part in it.

If the Lord wants you to meet a certain person, then He will provide a way as He did in the case of Jonathan Cahn, author of the bestseller The Harbinger. Our job is to rest in Him and be available and obedient. The favor of God follows when you are being obedient and using the gift the right way. The opposite occurs when you promote yourself and use people. I know a man that had a large ministry with several wealthy board members. During prayer times he would drop hints about his financial needs. This became his pattern. People took note of his manipulation, and he eventually lost his whole ministry.

As you flow with the Holy Spirit in prophetic ministry, there are basically three types of people you meet and minister to. Those that you will never see again, those who will pop in and out, and those that will turn into a relationship. Sometimes it’s a one-off, other times there’s a relationship. Either way, there’s a purpose in all meetings.

When God brings a person into my life, I don’t know which category they will fall into. Since I don’t know how long the assignment will be, I try to make myself available, again to just be pliable and open to the Holy Spirit. You can’t go into an encounter with someone with expectations because you don’t know how long it’s going to last. You can’t get attached, either. Don’t let yourself get disappointed if a relationship doesn’t develop. It’s a mistake to push and try to force things. Trust me, you don’t want someone in your life that is not supposed to be there, I don’t care who they are. Make the most of the time and make yourself available to fulfill what God wants through the situation.

For the prophetic gift to flow through us, God must be able to trust us. We must guard our hearts against the temptation to manipulate God’s spiritual gifts for our own advancement. The long-term outcome of relationships with people you minister to is up to God, not us. Our role is to embrace these relationships loosely, letting them go if that is His will. Our priorities need to be in order—intimacy with Him, ministry to family, to others and then work.

When our priorities are in order, we can trust Him to repair our family relationships. If God can trust us, then there is no limit to what He can do with us!

As a Believer, Have You Been Hiding During This Culture War?

Many years ago, Jesus went up on a mountain, sat down, and spoke to the group he was with: “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all...
