Why Greg Laurie Believes Children—And Maybe Adults—Have Their Own Guardian Angels

Pastor Greg Laurie recently addressed a question he frequently gets asked: “Do people have individual guardian angels?” Laurie says he’s not certain of the answer, but he believes children probably do—and there’s reason to believe adults might as well.

“Sometimes the question is asked ‘Do we have guardian angels?'” Laurie says. “I don’t know the answer, but I think it may be yes. I think it may be that children have guardian angels. I don’t know about adults. And I say that because in Matthew 18:10, Jesus said, ‘Don’t look down on one of these little ones’—speaking of children—’I tell you their angels in heaven always see the face of My Father in heaven.’ So maybe children have guardian angels.”

Regarding adults, Laurie notes that in Acts 12, when Peter is freed from prison and shows up at a house where Christians are worshipping, they dismiss his appearance at first by saying “It’s his angel.”

“It’s interesting they said, ‘It’s just his angel,'” Laurie says. “So maybe we have guardian angels. But even if we don’t have specific angels assigned to us, we know that we have angels all around us. Psalm 91 makes a very important statement about this: ‘God will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. They will lift you up in their hand so you will not strike your foot against a stone.’ So God will do His part, and you need to do yours.”
