Living for His Honor and Glory

Hebrews 2:1-18 We’ve talked much about winning the race of life and running it well by walking in truth and love. We talked about the crown that awaits all those who love the appearing of Christ. Most of us, however, go through life without the realization that we already are wearing a victor’s crown. Listen to what the writer says in Hebrews: “Thou madest him [and all of us] a little lower than the angels: thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands. Thou hast put all things in subjection under him?.?.?.? he left nothing that is not put under him” (vv. 7-8).

We need to remind ourselves daily of the crown of glory and honor that rests upon our heads throughout our days on this earth. If we daily recognize this invisible crown, I believe we would live our lives differently. We were created to be a praise, honor and glory to God. This means our days on earth need to be spent in praise and lived in such a way that we glorify God in both word and deed.

The sad reality is that many lose this crown in their lives because they go their own way instead of living in the fear of the Lord. The crown tumbles off their head, and the only way they can once again wear this crown is to humble themselves by bowing their knee to God. As we humble ourselves and bow our knees in submission once again to God, He reaches for this crown and places it firmly once again upon our heads. God always humbles Himself to see a repentant heart. We all sin and fall short of the glory of God, but what we do when we sin has everything to do with wearing the victor’s crown of glory and honor. If we confess our sins and repent of them, we can rest assured that this crown of glory will be upon our heads, because if we confess our sins, Jesus is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and to cleanse us of all unrighteousness.

Is your crown of glory and honor fastened securely to your head today? If it is not, then bow before our Lord in sincerity and contriteness of heart and allow Him to once again fasten this glorious crown on your head. Continue after this to walk in truth and love, and you will be wearing this crown when you finish this race of this life.

Lord, I have been challenged by these readings in October, especially the letters to Timothy, to run the race of this life well. Thank You for giving me the strength and ability by Your Holy Spirit to do this. I am totally dependent upon Him to run the race of life well through me. Thank You.
