A Prayer for Those Who Love

Colossians 1:1-20 When my children were young, I used to pray Scripture prayers for them aloud. Most of the Scripture prayers came from the letters Paul wrote to the different churches. Today’s reading in Colossians has one of the prayers I prayed regularly for my three sons. It is an excellent prayer that you can pray for anyone you love. Paul said, “I do not cease to pray for you.” These were the things he prayed: “That you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy” (vv. 9-11).

These are prayers you can torment the devil with when he gives you thoughts of worry about your loved ones. When we pray God’s Word instead of just our own thoughts, we give Satan a double whammy. We submit ourselves to God through prayer, which causes us to humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God by casting our every care upon Him. Remember our admonition yesterday, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God” (Phil. 4:6). When we cast our cares about our loved ones on Jesus, we can no longer keep whirling in the worry state about our loved ones and Satan is defeated. Humility is one of our strongest weapons against Satan. When we pray God’s Word we are always praying according to God’s will. Satan is wounded greatly by the fiery darts we send him when we speak God’s Word aloud in prayer against him.

Are you concerned today about your family and loved ones? Then use the scriptures above to pray for your loved ones right now. Also remind Satan that God has promised to perfect everything that is a concern to you. Give slewfoot a double whammy today, and peace will flood your soul.

Lord, I humble myself before You and cast all of my cares and concerns for my loved ones into Your loving arms. I pray that my children, husband and all my loved ones might be filled with the knowledge of Your will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. I pray that they might walk worthy of You and please You and be fruitful in every good work. I pray that they daily will increase in the knowledge of You and will suffer long and be always patient and longsuffering because You fill them with Your glory and joy.
