Why the Enemy Targets Your Holy Imagination

I often refer to my “holy imagination.” I get asked all the time by listeners what exactly I mean when I use this reference. Simply put, our holy imagination is the place in our spiritual mind where we are in union with the mind of Christ deposited into us by the written word and by the precious Holy Spirit.

But why did God give us an imagination to begin with? Webster’s Dictionary describes “imagination” as the act or power of forming a mental image of something not present to the senses or never before perceived in reality. It also means the creative ability, creative power of the thinking or active mind. It represents the mind’s eye and the ability of the mind to be creative or resourceful. The word “imagination” is actually taken from a Latin root word which means to picture to oneself. To sum that up, our imagination is the movie screen of our minds. And not just a movie screen but a creative force that manifests what it shows into the natural realm! It’s a very powerful tool given to us by God because He wanted us to be able to commune with him there and to co-create our world with Him to build His kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven!

“But Christa, that picture in my imagination when I was praying with my friend or when I had that idea for a new business feels like it was just me. How do I know that’s God and not my own imagination?”

I’m glad you asked! The answer is this: We are one with Christ. His Spirit and His nature have invaded our spirits! We’re in union. There is no more separation except through the lies we believe which cause doubt that then short-circuits our ability to hear him. By faith through grace the Holy Spirit now lives inside of us, and He is always speaking when we are ready to be quiet and listen. Many times we expect His voice to come somewhere from the outside of us, and we miss the subtle ways He is always communicating to us from the inside of our own imagination. All you have to do is believe and receive.

Everything that has ever been created was first a seed in somebody’s imagination, including you and I. When the Trinity formed man in the garden of Eden, they said, “Let us make man in our image” (Gen. 1:16b). God literally pictured you and I looking like Him, and out of the power of God’s imagination, we were created. Every living soul ever conceived was first given birth to in God’s mind and was fashioned from His ability to create what He saw in His mind on the movie screen of His infinite imagination! That is so incredible! This is why our minds are so targeted by the enemy. And this is why, from the time we are children, our imagination is attacked. We were created to co-create with God.
