Brothers Tim and Jon Neufeld with Dave Lalonde and James Johnston make up the modern-worship band Starfield. They continue to write for the church, and their new album, The Saving One, is a mix of modern-worship anthems and songs of personal confession.
“‘Rediscover You’ is as accurate a description of my journey with Christ as anything I’ve ever written,” Tim Neufeld says. “I desperately find myself needing to rediscover the things of God-I want real, and I want passionate. I want to relearn ‘walking by faith,’ and I found incredible freedom in speaking those desires out in the lyrics.”
The title track reflects on Christ’s saving grace. “Something to Say” honestly confesses that it’s hard to believe in Him. Listeners will relate to this desperate cry. “Absolutely” is sure to become a fan and congregational staple offering adoration to Jesus: “I am absolutely in love with You.” The upbeat “Overwhelm” is a cry of surrender and desperation for God’s Spirit to fall and consume us. The danceable “Top of Our Lungs” is a fun, unashamed profession of praise.
The Saving One offers songs of rousing worship but also addresses the doubt and difficulties we can face with our faith. Yet it’s in the midst of these challenges that true worship can rise, and Starfield is leading the way.
