In an age when kids are getting mixed messages everywhere they turn, a solid, clear message is coming from pureNRG. This trio—Caroline, 14, Carolyne, 14, and Jordan, 16—have accomplished more in their young lives than many do in a lifetime. They first entered the scene in 2007 and keep making their mark on pop music. With their new album, The Real Thing, the group continues to fulfill its mission “to entertain, educate and promote Christian values for young people by using wholesome, uplifting lyrics along with music and dance, in order to provide a positive role model. … We hope our music will cross all boundaries and that it is so powerful the world can’t help but notice.”

With their third album, the trio had more say in the song choices this time around. “We chose songs we really felt would spread God’s Word to people,” Carolyne says. “We look for songs kids can relate to and that will give them a positive message. We want parents to feel they can let their kids listen to our music.”

To that extent,The Real Thing delivers, with some songs offering adoration and praise to the Lord and others speaking directly to the listener. “Before the Sun Goes Down” encourages us to forgive and to pass along the grace we’ve received. “Cover of a Magazine” addresses the issue of self-esteem, which can be especially fragile in the teen years. The song reminds teens (and anyone) that what we see in magazines isn’t real and far from perfect. PureNRG cautions us to desire beauty on the inside more.

PureNRG’s music and energy will continue to attract believers and unbelievers alike. The biblically sound lyrics will build Christians’ faith and draw those who are searching. These songs deliver thought-provoking messages, and the melodies keep it fun, fresh and danceable. A caution to young fans: Keep your copy of this CD in a safe place—your parents might take it for their own collections.
