Where Did Politicians Get the Authority to Violate the Constitutional Rights of American Citizens?

Apparently through power newly acquired in 60 days, politicians and government bureaucrats have taken courses of action that will result in objectionable and potentially devastating outcomes as we look down the road and around the corner.

The prime question to be asked here is: When and where did politicians get the authority to violate the constitutional rights of American citizens?

What’s becoming clearer by the day is the genius and foresight of the American Founders in drafting the U.S. Constitution, which protected each individual’s God-given rights from government tyranny by limiting governmental powers.

“Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety,” argued Benjamin Franklin.

John Adams was in 1765 of the mindset that “liberty must at all hazards be supported” (emphasis added).

Despite Franklin’s caution and Adams’ conviction, the coronavirus was deemed so great a national health hazard that for “a little temporary safety” a lockdown was purchased at a very heavy price.

In 2020, the year of the COVID-19 pandemic, nearly 232 years have passed since the Constitution became the official framework of the government of the United States of America, safeguarding us against callous, unwarranted and inordinate use of power and control by national, state and local lawmakers, as well as government bureaucrats.

Notwithstanding such measures put in place by the founders, “Kansas City, Missouri, officials are now requiring every church to submit a list of members and attendees … to city officials for tracking and surveillance purposes,” reports Liberty Counsel.

On Friday, May 1, Mat Staver, former dean of Liberty University School of Law and chairman of Liberty Counsel law firm, wrote: “Yesterday, we received a desperate call from a Kansas City, Missouri, church whose local government is reaching new and terrifying heights in destroying our constitutional freedom. The Kansas City government is now demanding that churches turn over membership lists, along with the names, telephone numbers and physical addresses of anyone who enters a church! This order also applies to all businesses.

“The new order states that by recording names and contact information, the health department will be able ‘to more quickly trace, test, and isolate individuals who may have been exposed to COVID-19.’ Anyone who does not provide this information should be refused entrance!

“The Germans did this very thing to Jews – collecting the names and locations of all known synagogue attendees – in the early days of the Nazi regime.”

Not long afterward, the Nazis decreed that all Jews over the age of 6 had to wear a yellow Star of David on their outer clothing in public at all times, evidently “to more quickly trace and isolate” them.

It is not beyond the realm of imagination that people exposed to the coronavirus in the near future will have to wear a visible C-19 mark on their clothing in order to maintain social distancing, isolation and other restrictions. What a grave new world.

Californian’s trials and tribulations with Gov. Gavin Newsom began earlier, on Nov. 6, 2018, when Newsom was elected the 40th governor of that state. Over the last 20 years, Newsom had worked on his record of placing himself above the law.

We may, for example, remember that Californians in March 2000 voted to ban same-sex marriage by a 62% vote (Prop. 22).

In February 2004, San Francisco’s freshly elected Mayor Newsom, by edict, elevated himself above the law and “turned City Hall into a wedding chapel for 4,000 couples, authorizing same-sex marriage against state law.”

In August 2004, the California Supreme Court annulled the marriages that Mayor Newsom had authorized, as being in conflict with state law.

Here we have a single San Francisco politician, a simple mayor, bestowing upon himself the right to override the vote of 4.6 million Californians, who in 2000 had spoken out in an overwhelming percentage of 62% against same-sex marriage in California.

In that same year, 2004, besides using his pen to annul 4,618,463 Californian voters, thereby violating the rule of law, Newsom was caught in an adulterous affair with his best friend’s wife … his best friend’s wife.

Incredibly, Californians elected Newsom as their governor in 2018, entrusting him to head their state government, and, consequently, unleashing state educationalists to dream up the most vile, depraved and outlandish K-6 grade sex “education” curriculum.

Californians have subjected themselves to the likes of an overlord in the form of Gov. Gavin Christopher Newsom. They are, thus, learning something that can be learned in no other way. And that is that righteousness exalts a nation, a state and an individual, whereas sin is a disgrace to potentates, autocrats, despots, tyrants, authoritarians, totalitarians, fascists, overlords and corrupt government chieftains and lieutenants alike (see Prov. 14:34).

Thanks be to God if He uses this pandemic to serve as a catalyst. After featuring him in our op-ed two weeks ago—”Who’s the King of America?”—Pastor Steve Riggle emailed over the weekend: “David, did you see this from Mat Staver regarding the Kansas City, MO, churches having to turn over information on members to the health dept. … Time for every pastor and church to stand up and say to politicians and government … [the] Party’s over … No more … We are done …”

What’s happening in America is spiritual. Something much bigger than a viral plague is at play. In hindsight, we may find that a historical turning point took place with the war, as described in Ephesians 6:12, “against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against a spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”

Even so, enough is enough.
