‘Planet of the Apes’ Actor Gets Baptized After Powerful Role in Religious Film

by | Nov 28, 2018 | Culture

Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa has a decorated resume, covering all sorts of projects from many TV shows to movies like Mortal Kombat and Planet of the Apes. Most recently, the Japanese-born actor starred in The Man and the High Castle as the Japanese trade minister Tagomi as well as the Netflix reboot of Lost in Space. However, behind all his work on camera, Tagawa loves Jesus.

In 2015, Tagawa portrayed a priest in the Russian-made movie The Priest-San. The movie follows a Japanese priest who flees to Russia after wars in his home country. While there, he helps local residents stand against corruption.

While filming in Russia, Tagawa recalls his thoughts of the church and Christianity, “when I first came to Russia, I had very little time to get into the character. So, I visited a number of Russian cathedrals in Yaroslavl and Rostov. Simply being inside had a very powerful effect on me.”

Tagawa expressed a desire to be baptized in the Russian Orthodox church, but one priest was skeptical of his authenticity until he got to know Tagawa on a more personal level. The Orthodox priest said, “seeing his faith and sincere intentions, I decided to baptize him.” {eoa}

What America’s Memorial Day Means for Israel

Each year, I try to think of how to depict Memorial Day in Israel in a way that's meaningful and juxtapose it in relation to how it's observed in the US. Many thoughts race through my head. And each year. I see Memorial Day through a different prism. This year's prism...

Is God Speaking Through Déjà Vu?

Is God Speaking Through Déjà Vu?

The occurrence of déjà vu has confounded people for millennia. St. Augustine is credited as being the first to reference the concept of déjà vu, while it was French philosopher Emile Boirac who coined the term "déjà vu" in 1890. But is there something more to the...

Pentecost: Holy Living for Our Holy God

In 1 Thessalonians, chapter 4, the apostle Paul instructed the believers, by the authority of the Lord Jesus, about “how you are to walk and to please God.” He bluntly told them it was “God’s will” for them to “avoid sexual immorality” (v. 3; NIV). The Greek word Paul...

New ‘AI-Generated Ouija Board’ Aims to Converse with the Dead

People around the world are starting to flock to "grief tech" for answers, much like Saul flocked to the medium of Endor when he wanted answers from the deceased prophet Samuel. But what is grief tech, and is it abominable as the Lord finds the practice of necromancy...

Why Believers Must Develop a Heavenly Mindset

Why Believers Must Develop a Heavenly Mindset

Beloved, as believers in Yeshua, we need to be focused on and living for—the age to come. Our thinking as well as our actions should reflect and demonstrate this. We cannot allow our temporal circumstances to define who we are in God or distract us from having a...

Are You Pentecostal in Practice?

My personal, spiritual journey has all been within the fellowship of just one church family, the Foursquare Church. It is one of several, historic, Pentecostal denominations which grew out of the Azusa Street Revival in Los Angeles in the early 1900s. As a matter of...

Deliverance Pastors: Keep Pure When Ministering to Women

The laying on of hands is an age-old tradition in the church dating as far back as Moses and Joshua. It is a practice you see in the charismatic church quite often today. But deliverance minister Mike Signorelli says there is a proper way for kingdom leaders to handle...
