By Tim LaHaye | David C. Cook | hardcover | 240 pages | $22.99

This book by the theological creator of the best-selling Left Behind series is more suited as an apologetics resource and for small-group study than leisure reading. Still, it is a worthwhile contribution to the Christian community, since Tim LaHaye confronts the Gnostics and other critics of Christ’s historicity and the authenticity of the Gospels.

In addition to refuting them with biblical and historical evidence, he presents a series of testimonies that stand as proof of the change Jesus makes in people’s lives.

The latter makes one of the most fascinating chapters, along with LaHaye’s review of the extreme bias against women that existed in most cultures until Christ came on the scene and held them up as equal to men. Two other notable features are several lists of biblical prophecies and their fulfillment, and the author’s review of the Christian influence on many of our nation’s founders that modern revisionists love to ignore.
