Mortimer Flochart (Brendan Fraser) and 12-year-old daughter Meggie (Eliza Hope Bennet) love books. They also both have a special gift: When they read aloud characters come to life. But there’s a catch; when someone from a book becomes real, someone from real life disappears into the book.

One day while Flochart and Meggie are in a used bookstore, he hears voices coming from the book Inkheart.

He’s been searching for this book ever since Meggie was 3, and his wife, Resa, disappeared into its magical world. Flochart plans to use the book to save Resa but the book’s evil villain is determined to keep her captive. He kidnaps Meggie and discovers she has the same gift as her father and demands that she read to life his powerful ally, the Shadow.

Flochart sets out to rescue his daughter and send all the fictional characters back where they belong. He gathers a group of family and friends and they embark on a dangerous journey to save his family.
