Henry Poole (Luke Wilson) is a disillusioned, sarcastic loner seeking to escape the realities of an unfulfilled life. His one goal is to settle into his new home and be left alone. But when his nosy neighbor Esperanza (Adriana Barraza) discovers a stain on the side of his house that seems to have miraculous powers, Henry’s hopes for obscurity are crushed.

Esperanza and other neighbors quickly invade his world with unexpected friendship and healing, making it impossible for Henry to retreat from life and give up hope.

Though mostly inspirational, Henry Poole Is Here addresses tough topics such as fear, depression, loss, death and ultimately faith. Slow-moving at times but somewhat funny, it offers realistic solutions to some of life’s most difficult problems.

Viewers will be grateful for the message of Christ and conviction, messages often unaddressed in similar movies. Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times said the film is “a spiritual and heartwarming love story that will lift you up.” For viewers looking for reasons to believe in a God they cannot see, Henry Poole Is Here will not disappoint.
