The Benefits of Answering the Call to Prayer

Did you know that intercessory prayer comes with great rewards? When we say yes to God’s call to pray for others, we position ourselves to live in His benefits.

Jesus said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have love you, that you also love one another” (John 13:34, NKJV). The greatest commandment we have as believers is to love others. Love is the fulfillment of the law. And one of the greatest ways that we can fulfill this law and love others as Jesus does is by interceding for them. So, when we answer the call to pray, we are obeying the command to love.

We find the benefits for this choice to love in prayer in Deuteronomy 28. In the first two verses of this chapter, Moses said, “Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth” (NKJV). In the remainder of the chapter, Moses listed all of the benefits of obedience to God’s commands, and those benefits, or blessings, still apply to us today.

When we walk as intercessors and bear the burdens of the weak, living to serve God and others instead of to please ourselves, we are operating in the highest law there is—the law of love. As a result, all of the blessings of God will automatically follow after us and overtake us. When we commit to being people of prayer and intercession, spiritual laws of blessing are set in motion. We will be the head and not the tail. We will be above only and not beneath. Blessed will be the fruit of our wombs. We will be blessed in everything we set our hands to. Deuteronomy 28 lists many blessings for those who obey God.

We find a proof of this in Job 42:10, where it says, “And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends…” (NKJV). The blessing came for Job when he became an intercessor. In fact, God restored to Job double what he had lost after he decided to partner with the law of love and pray for his friends. Blessing always accompanies intercession. We don’t pray to be blessed, but we can know that we will be.

Sometimes I am simply amazed by how blessed I have been in this life. I have been blessed exceedingly and abundantly above all I could ask, hope, dream, or desire, and I believe this blessing flows out of my simple yes to God’s call to intercession. The best and most blessed place we can be is walking in obedience to God’s call, living in the law of love through intercession for others.

Won’t you join me in being a greatly blessed intercessory prayer warrior?
